I would like to invite all Mass Comm majors and faculty of any university in the region to join this professional organization. Membership forms are downloadable from the website: asianmediacongress.org/.
There will be an international conference to be scheduled this 21-23 August 2008 here in Davao City. Students are invited to join the paper competition (you can rehash your thesis proposals for this). Here are the details:
GRAND PRIX: A Student Paper Competition
The Paper
The paper should be related to media and communication with focus on the International Conference’s theme: “Media in Asia: A Tool for Human Rights Education and Monitoring.” The paper must have a high degree of scholarly effort and all entries will be screened by the ACMC Media Education Committee. Top ten papers will be published in the 2008 ACMC Student Compendium.
The Participants
Only enrolled students from an East Asian university can join the contest. A team will be composed of two undergraduate students and one faculty-adviser. Participants should submit an endorsement letter from the program head or the dean indicating their names and certifying their residency in the university. Only 1 entry per school is allowed.
The Mechanics
a. Entries must be written in English and accompanied by an abstract of not more than 250 words. It will be on 8x11 white paper, not less than 30 pages, but not more than 50 pages (abstract not included in the page requirement) including photos, grafts, and figures. It should be double-spaced, Times New Roman, font size of 12, and a margin of 1 inch frame.
b. Entries must be accompanied by a soft copy on Microsoft Word, whether in a diskette, compact disc, or as an e-mail attachment to grandprix@asianmediacongress.org.
c. Entries can be a concept paper or a full blown research paper. It must be original and must not have been previously published.
d. Participants must use the APA 2005 style sheet. References must be properly listed at the end of the paper and it is the responsibility of the authors to secure permission for the use of copyrighted materials.
e. Photographs should be of good quality and printed either colored or black and white. Lines and drawings should be original. Submitted photographs, lines, and drawings will be returned to the authors on assigned schedule.

The Criteria
A. CONTENT OF THE PAPER (60%) degree of scholarly effort: 20%, organization of thoughts and concept/research design: 20%, social relevance: 10% and mechanics of paper writing: 10%
B. ORAL DEFENSE (40%) consistency of facts and arguments: 15%, coherence of responses: 15%, and facility of language skills: 10%
The Oral defense will take place during the International Conference in August 2008. THE DECISION OF THE GROUP OF JURORS IS FINAL.
